Only 8 players to keep. I would choose:
3B Ryan Braun (Mil – 3B)
LF Matt Holliday (Col – LF)
BN Kevin Youkilis (Bos – 1B,3B,LF)
BN Dan Uggla (Fla – 2B)
2B Chone Figgins (LAA – 2B,3B,LF,CF,RF)
SP Jake Peavy (SD – SP)
SP Cole Hamels (Phi – SP)
BN Ian Snell (Pit – SP) or RP Takashi Saito (LAD – RP)
I would hold on to more hitters because there are usually a lot of pitchers available in the draft or during the season
Ok, you need to keep 8. Here are my choices.
1. Jake Peavy – He is the first name that jumps out at me and is arguable the best pitcher in baseball. He gets a ton of strikeouts and has an ERA under 3.00.
2. Cole Hamels – He jumps out at me as well. I think he could easily become one of the best pitcher in the NL this season. He also is a strikeout pitcher and has pitched terrific with not a lot of major league expericence. This should be his season to break out.
3. Ryan Braun – This guy is amazing. He had the second most fantasy points per game of any player! Only behind A-Rod. Braun can hit for a decent average and hits for a ton of power. This is an up and coming superstar. He figures to be a top 15 pick in most drafts.
4. Chone Figgins – This guy, if healthy can steal 50+ bases and he hit over .330 last season after coming back from injury. He should score a ton of runs in the Angels lineup. This guy should be a spark to your lineup.
5. Matt Holliday – Another guy who should be a top 10 pick in most drafts. He was an MVP candidate after coming out of nowehere to become an elite player. He is a must keep on any team.
6. Takashi Saito – You have to keep a close and he’s your best one. The Dodgers do however have Jonathan Broxton waiting in the wings if Saito struggles.
7. Paul Konerko – He had a down year for the first half of the season but then turned things around. I think he is still a 30+ HR threat – keep him.
8. Dan Uggla/Alex Rios – Second base should be a thin postion this season. Having him and Figgins would be nice. You could move Figgins to the outfield if you needed to. If you don’t want two second baseman go with Alex Rios who has become a solid fantasy option.
Jake Peavy, Cole Hamels, Jermaine Dye, Orlando Cabrera, Javier Vazquez, Kevin Youkilis, Dan Uggla, Matt Holliday
Definently you need to cut Furcal and Vasquez
Good luck
If I were you I would cut more then 8 for a keeper league to try to get some other younger players. Absoloutly keep, Ryan Braun, Matt Holiday, Alex Rios, Jake Peavy, and Cole Hamels, if you have to keep 8, maybe look at Uggla, Figgins (just because of age and versatility) and maybe Zumaya because of his age, good luck!
If there is any 8 player I would like to keep, then here’s my selection….
- 3B Ryan Braun, Milwaukee: He turn out to be one of the better fantasy stud and although there are talks of moving him to the OF, Braun is sure keeper in this league at 3B.
- OF Matt Holliday, Colorado: The man is a 30 HR, 130 RBI machine who can hit for a high average and can always challenge for the triple crown (batting average, HR, RBI). He’s still in his prime of his career and should be kept on your team.
- OF Brad Hawpe, Colorado: Another player that can drive in 30 HR, 100 RBI for the Rockies, even if he bats 6th in the lineup.
- OF Alex Rios, Toronto: He’s always fliritng with a 20 HR, 20 SB season and he’ll get there, so make sure you can keep him or trade him.
- SP Jake Peavy, San Diego: The best pitcher, period.
- SP Cole Hamels, Philadelphia: Hamels first full season as the ace was just marvelous (15-5, 3.39 ERA, 177 K) and his numbers could get even better, maybe even an 18-20 game winner.
- RP Takashi Saito, Los Angeles Dodgers: One of the better relievers in the National League and he could be solid as trade bait.
- SP Ian Kennedy, New York Yankees: Although his stuff is not quite effective as Joba Chamberlain or Philip Hughes, this former USC phenom can be so much better in a Yankees rotation.
The selection was hard to make, but if you want to win, then these are the players that are consider keepable.
