Why Is Jake Peavy So Scared Of The American League And New York?
Posted on May 30th, 2009 by admin
Jake Peavy is a laid back country boy, New York is a high stress environment to play. Some players like the media drooling all over them and Peavy doesnt. And he has said that he really likes to swing the bat… he wants to hit.
The hitters in National League are just as good, maybe better than the AL these days. The only difference is the DH. So no, he isnt scared of the Competition

jake peavy is a good pitcher, i am not entirely sure, maybe the spotlight, many guys cant perform when the pressure is on. he screwed up in that one game playoff game against the rockies. but also he may want to stay on the west coast. all in all, the AL is a much better hitters, alot more patience, and you have to face a DH, which is another difficult out, while the NL has the nice ease of a P slot in the lineup.
Peavy is an elite top 3 pitcher. If you move him to the AL he’s not going to be that. He’s going to have games where he gives up a lot of runs. IIRC he would accept a trade to new york, but it woul require some money to waive his NTC. I don’t get why no one is saying why is he afraid of Boston, Cleveland, Seattle, Tampa, KC, etc….These are the teams he wouldn’t even waive his NTC for, at least theres some nudging for New York.
I dont think he is scared. But it might be because AL has a DH, which would be a tougher out rather than facing pitchers in NL and getting SO in them. Especially in NY, they’re in AL East, he has to face the Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, Blue Jays and Orioles, it is considered to be the toughest division in baseball currently.
Well, I’m afraid that all Red Sox fans and Yankee haters just have to admit it-
Peavy knows that we are going to get so many good starters in the free agent pool, he won’t be #1 in the rotation. Because he’s spent career in San Diego, where they SUCK, he will be so scared to be 2 or 3.
Think about it. Wang is #1. If they get CC, hes 2, and Burnett would be 3. Pettite could be 4 and Joba is 5. STACKED! Think Peavy could handle being behind Wang and CC? No. He’s a San Diego softy.
Im not trying to be an @ss but that sounds like straight cowardice . Competitors like a challenge and it seems like he’s afraid of that challenge . It’s no secret that the AL east is the toughest division in baseball and if he thought he was that good then he would be eager to come and prove himself . Ive got no respect for a player looking for the easy way out . I could be completely wrong and he may have other reasons but this is the impression im getting so let his scary @ss stay in the NL .
Maybe he is just tired and disgusted over the otherwise useless and over the hill DH’s who would be a total trainwreck if they were forced to play in the field to earn their keep. I know I am. Some of the Very highest paid players can’t field better than a high school kid yet drive up the price of tickets for every fan. Thanks DH!
I never in a million yrs thought there were so many Scaredy Cat pitchers… wahhhhhh wahhhhhh i don’t wanna go to NY i’m sooooooo scared please don’t trade me to ny pleazeeee,What a bunch of Babies
It’s a joke their nothing like the old school pitchers. It’s really sad.I agree with the guy above me.
Because he is comfortbale in the National League. Not to mention New York is so high pressured. New York seems like a place were pitchers go to die. High priced pitchers go there and their numbers just seem to fall dramatically. Its bad.
He is afraid maybe, the Thing is not every person is cute out to play or can handle the New York pressure and the Media and Peavy would just be good enough in With the Padres
Facing Boston and Tampa Bay on regular basis doesn’t sound good to him. Besides, he won’t be able to handle the pressure. Look what happened to Randy Johnson.
He saw how the Mets fans treated Santana and knows that he could endure the same in New York if he does not meet expectations.
Some people are afraid of change. They’d rather face the same batters rather than facing batters that they know nothing about and starting from scratch in that stand point.
Well he wants to stay close to his hometown Alabama, and in New York there is just too much pressure. Plus he likes to hit.
Doesn’t want to be like A-Rod if he can’t bring a champion chip to NY and having to pitch to the pitcher is almost a free out.
Because, not only does he want to hit, but he doesn’t like New York. Same with CC Sabathia.
NL has better teams and going to the AL would skew his stats and he knows that. He wants to play against the best teams.
He loses about 90 at bats by opposing pitchers with the AL DH.
Maybe he doesn’t like the DH? Perhaps AL umpires have a narrower strike zone?
Because we are just so good.
