Why Would The Braves Sign Furcal?

i see no need for Furcal unless they were getting rid of Escobar or Johnson.
supposidely kelley Johnson will play left field, but that doesn’t seem like a very smart move because they’ll lack power hitting..
can it be that Jake Peavy is still coming to atlanta and they’ll have to part with escobar or johnson..

This moves open trading Johnson and maybe someone else for a power hitting left fielder.
Trading Escobar in a package for anyone but Roy Holliday would be stupid.Peavy isnt that great when you break down his numbers, definetly era difference between road games and home games.
I say do the trade with Johnson and sign Sheets and Smoltz to complete the team.It would make a bad off season a whole lot better.
Look for this to be the first of many deals.
why sign Furcal? Look at his numbers. For a shortstop, which is theoretically a defensive position, his numbers are fantastic. He’s not in the Hanley Ramirez, Jose Reyes, Derek Jeter league. But he’s in the one just under it. By the way, those are the only 3 guys in the top league, and Furcal, along with rollins, is the best of the next one down. He’s better than orlando cabrera and edgar renteria, so it makes all the sense in the world to sign him.
What I dont get is if they plan on signing furcal why not trade escobar and a couple prospects for a good starter. They already lost out on Burnett as he signed with the yankees, and the best pitcher left in Derek Lowe who I believe will sign with the yankees or mets.
The Braves had an opportunity to get Furcal back with the team and they jumped on it. Even if they don’t wind up with Peavy I believe it was a good move for the Braves.
some teams want Escobar. The cardinals are willing to trade ludwick for him.Imagine allthose homeruns for atlanta.
