Vazquez, now Derek Lowe, and possibly trade for Matt Holliday/Jake Peavy/Adun Dunn…

nah, they wont get any better than 3rd in the NL east…too much of a hill to climb behind the mets and phils, and they both had better teams before, and got even better this offseason. the braves just didnt do enough, they lost on way too many guys
I think Lowe was a bad signing, he played in a pitcher’s park and accumulated excellent stats and he had an away ERA of 4.6 and a WHIP of 1.39. Add this to the fact that he is 36 means he is a bad risk for $60 mill and 4 years.
You can look at the other SPs that left the Dodgers like Odalis Perez, Hideo Nomo and Jeff Weaver to see how they fare the following year. Additionally Jose Lima even had a ERA of 4.07 when pitching at Dodger stadium, I think Lowe is a ERA 4.4 WHIP 1.35 pitcher at 36yo and is probably worth $7 mill a year, the Brave overpaid significantly for his declining ability. As for Vazquez, He was probably their best signing, but it is hard to see him with a ERA under 4 and WHIP under 1.28, So unless Kawakami is great, the Braves have Jair Jar and 3 no 4s and that would not be good enough against the Mets and Phillies
Probably next year, but they are on the right track.
They are not expected to go after Peavy now…but with Lowe, Vasquez, Jurrgens, Kawakami and Hudson back by next year, they should be set.
They need another bat in the OF…someone who could play defense too…not AD, Adam Dunn, he could hurt them more than help.
They aren’t trading for Matt Holliday, but if they got Nady….I’d say they would contend and have a shot at winning the division.

Yes. The Dodgers just gave the Braves a late Christmas present in Lowe.
they look ok, they acquired javier vasquez and that guy from japan so their pitching looks good
They’ll contend for at least 3rd or 4th place
